It’s not an easy job being the one who fights for the rights of others. It’s especially not simple to be the man who stands for unionized work and continually argues in favor of this employment endeavor. But this is a fight that Dennis Martire continually takes on from his leadership position with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).
Martire began with LIUNA in 1990. He started as an international representative for the organization’s jurisdictional disputes department. Martire’s fight and prowess in the role were quickly recognized and he swiftly moved into the role of assistant director then director for the laborers’ construction department. It took only a decade for Martire to move into the esteemed role of assistant regional manager of the mid-Atlantic region, and by 2002, he was elected as the region’s vice president and regional manager.
From day one through his continued work with LIUNA today, Martire has fought for the rights of mid-Atlantic laborers. He’s helped change policies, earned them pay increases, discovered safer ways to complete jobs and represented hundreds upon hundreds of workers in this area. His fight continues and stays as strong as ever as Martire strives for the best pay, best conditions and best working environment for mid-Atlantic laborers.
